This past week seventeen members of St. Michael’s in the Hills, St. Timothy’s and St. Paul’s Episcopal Churches from Toledo spent the week
building porches, making friends and learning about some of the gifts and challenges of Appalachia. Our major work sites involved completing a porch for Kaylee along with finishing work begun last year to her new room addition and patching a few roof leaks on the old metal roof.
Another group spent the week at Marie’s repairing a front porch, part of which collapsed this past winter under the weight of firewood.
With the exception of rain on Monday, the week was dry, although warm. It was not all work though. On Wednesday they spent some time in the pool at the Cathedral Domain, the Diocese of Lexington’s Camp and Conference Center. Thursday afternoon provided a quick trip to Natural Bridge State Park and the sky lift to the top of the bridge and a hike down before gathering with the community for our weekly dinner with our neighbors. The young people did a wonderful job this week and we look forward to them visiting us again.
